Stress is our inability to deal with what is going on in our lives. A leading national poll showed that 90% of Americans are feeling overwhelmed with stress...it's a natural part of life... but not a healthy part of life. Everything is just moving too fast in this day and age, we have computers, cell phones, personal organizers and on and on. We are overwhelmed with information and that puts us into a frenzy mode.

When we are stressed chemicals such as adrenaline and cortisol coarse through our body trying to deal with stress the way we used to. At one time we would get stressed running away from the lion or bear and run as fast as we could and climb a tree and in the process metabolize all our stress chemicals and finally feel relaxed once the threat was gone. Nowadays that's not possible, we can't get away from work, the government, the IRS, our spouse, the kids, commuting and on and on. So we have to learn to deal with stress in a different way.

Stress lowers our immune system allowing disease to come in and take over. We may have a weak genetic link for heart disease and because of all the stress we are under it causes our liver to produce more cholesterol and thus we end up having a heart attack. Stress works in similar ways for others diseases too. Get your stress under control and you have a less likelihood of succumbing to disease.

Just sitting in a chair we have muscle tension going on. One muscle working with another muscle to hold us in place...we are always tensed up in one way or another holding tension in our body. When we have a headache our scalp is so tense that it puts pressure on our skull causing us pain.

We cannot get away from stress, but we can learn effective ways of dealing with stress so you can have the life you've always wanted!

A Simple Cup of Joe

Are you feeling stressed out, jittery and as though you are going to jump right out of your skin? Do you have problems concentrating and staying focused? Are you overwhelmed at the drop of a hat? Then you might be like lots of other people who think a simple cup of coffee is not going to hurt anything…but beware.

I want to tell you a story of a woman who worked for a large company with which I did business. One day this woman said to me, "Paul, I've been feeling like I just can't sit still, I'm very irritable and I'm not feeling well. I'm having trouble sleeping at night and late in the afternoon, I'm very tired and I feel a little depressed." I asked her, "Do you drink coffee?" and she said, "Of course! How do you think I stay awake at work?" Then I told her, "Trust me! Stop drinking coffee for a week and see what happens."

One week later I dropped by to see how she was doing and she said, "Paul, I feel so much better, now that I've stopped drinking coffee."

I can't tell you how many people I talk to that have the same problem. I must get four or five calls a day with the same complaints and I tell them the same thing, "Stop drinking coffee."

Did you know that coffee has the same effect upon you as a lion chasing you through the jungle? Now, I know what you are going to say, "That's crazy." But it's true! Your body reacts the same way to caffeine as it does to a lion chasing you through the jungle.

Here's how it works. When you experience a threat of some sort, your body automatically kicks into the "FLIGHT or FIGHT" mode and your adrenal glands and your brain and every other organ in your body start producing stress hormones to get you ready to run or do battle. A couple of these chemicals are adrenaline and cortisol which increase your heart rate, contract muscles, get you ready to spring into action, and thicken your blood so you don't bleed to death. As you run away from the lion (threat), these chemicals are metabolized and dissipated in the body.

The problem is you are not being chased by a lion so your body doesn't know what to do with these chemicals and they hang around for long periods of time creating havoc.

Here is a short list of what caffeine can do when it creates cortisol (stress chemicals) in your body. First, it causes you to have elevated blood sugar, increased blood pressure, muscle loss, gastrointestinal problems, lack of soluble nutrients, and a decrease in bone density. It also depresses your immune system, elevates your cholesterol, and it increases your hunger so you gain weight.

Immune depression may start the process of various diseases including arthritis, fibromyalgia, asthma and IBS. If this process continues for a long period of time, sooner or later devastating diseases such as cancer and viral heart conditions can take over. I have known people who have died of viral heart conditions because of stress.

Even your personality takes a hit. Long term exposure to cortisol can cause you to become moody, unable to concentrate, feel full of anxiety, cause insomnia, fatigue, and sometimes even depression. Soon you start to age at a much faster rate. I have to say that at one time I drank a very large mug of coffee every morning and I started to notice my skin was wrinkling. Once I stopped drinking coffee the wrinkles started to disappear. Very interesting.

People think coffee is a harmless, soothing, warm drink that makes you feel alive in the morning. Wrong! Coffee is an insidious killer that's in disguise. If you want to feel better, then I recommend that you try herbal coffees that don't have caffeine and won't bring about cortisol-related (stress) problems. Give Teeccino a try. This is a wonderful herbal coffee that is full of minerals and will help you have more energy instead of robbing you of your strength. It is completely caffeine free and can be brewed just like regular coffee.

Eliminate the Stress of Pain

Anytime you are in pain you feel stressed. As soon as you start feeling painful you automatically react with what's called the "fight or flight syndrome." You tense up, and your muscles are ready to run away from whatever's causing the pain. Adrenaline and cortisol hormones start pumping throughout your body getting you ready for battle. But it doesn't have to be this way.

Have you ever had the aches and pains of the flu or a cold and went out into the sun and soaked up some warm sunny rays? Of course you have, just about everyone has done that at one time or another. You've seen cats and dogs lying in the sun warming their bodies. Did you know those rays which warm their body are far infrared rays, and that those rays penetrate all the way through to your bones? Plus your body also gives off far infrared energy.

What if there was a way to warm your body with those warming rays without the bad effects of the carcinogenic rays of the sun? Well there is! There are some new space age fibers on the market that are made from the same material that cover the space shuttle and the spacesuits the astronauts wear. As you know, when the space shuttle re-enters the earth's atmosphere there's a lot of heat built up around the shuttle and this ceramic material reflects the heat back into space. Also astronauts walking in space are subjected to extreme temperatures and this same material keeps them both warm and cool.

Because far infrared rays have the ability to penetrate throughout your entire body, they also have the ability to help increase healing at a deep level. Heating pads only penetrate about one inch but these new space age materials allows your own infrared heat to be reflected back into your body. There is no need to plug it in, heat it up, or charge it up, all you do is wear this fiber and it warms your body increasing circulation and healing.

I have been sleeping with a thin little comforter made of this material and it is amazing. I'm always the right temperature. If there are two people under one of these comforters and one sleeps warm all the time and the other cold, both are comfortable under this material.

When you exercise you have lactic acid which builds up in your tissues. This gives you aches and pains, and this far infrared material helps to move lactic acid out of your body at a much faster rate which helps you to feel pain free and comfortable.

Far infrared products used in combination with other health products can help you to enjoy life with a significant decrease in your bodily stress.

The Six Stages of Change

Once we understand that everything in our lives is in one way or another self created, we can change. It takes courage to understand that if we want a better life then we are going to have to make changes. All of this leads to the following process.

1. When something goes wrong, the first thing we usually do is deny the problem. This does not fix the problem it only perpetuates the problem for a longer period of time.

2. Then we get angry at the situation and all the people around us, and this keeps us from looking at the situation from a logical point of view.

3. Thirdly we start blaming someone or something else for the problems we have. That way we don't have to look within. Blaming makes it easy to put our fears and anxieties off onto someone else. Scapegoats work well to keep us happy with our unhappy situation.

4. Then there is depression. We feel overwhelmed with the situation and we allow it to take over our lives to the point that we fall into a pit of self-pity and despair. We keep hoping that the problem will fix itself.

5. After that we start accepting responsibility, looking at the situation and acknowledging our role in this process and taking the bull by the horns.

6. Finally we take action, work on ourselves, making decisions and making changes in our lives. If I don't like where I live, I can make changes so that I have the money to live some where else.

Perhaps I need to go back to school in order to get a great job. Maybe I'm working long hours and I need to find new ways of working smarter instead of harder. No one can take away our education, self-education and inspiration. All it takes is a little perspiration, diligence, the knowing we will never give up.

How are you doing? At what stage are you at right now? Are you at anger, denial, blaming? Or have you moved forward to acknowledgement and action? Life is simple all we have to do is look deep.

You can also bypass this whole process once you become enlightened and jump right to change-That's up to you!

The Biggest Problem We Face Today

When more than 80% of the population is feeling overwhelmed with stress, there should be no stigma about letting the world know that you are human and have stress. But that is the problem with stress, we worry that people will feel we can't handle life if we tell them we are stressed. So we let stress build up, never dealing with it, never learning new coping mechanisms, to the point that it finally kills us with one disease or another. Acknowledge your stress and do something about it, we all have stress. It's a fact.
