The
Way of the Relaxed Soul
“The Relaxed Soul is respectful”
When we come home feeling beat and also see our spouse feels beat
and ask what’s for dinner are we being respectful?
Asking our spouse how their day went and then asking what we should
do for dinner gives them choice?
Otherwise we are taking away their power and they become a slave to
our expectation.
A
respectful relationship is not demanding.
A
respectful relationship expects nothing.
A
respectful relationship is not about getting our way.
A
respectful relationship allows everyone to grow.
Thus love, peace and contentment grow at home and we feel relaxed.
It is said in ancient
texts: Be with those who help your being, don’t sit with indifferent
people, whose breath comes cold out of their mouths. - Rumi

Health Tip
Dr. Hayes distinguished past president for the Association of
Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies has written over 27 books on
therapy including “Get out of your mind and into your life”. This
new approach to creating happiness is very different, it takes on
the Buddhist principles of insight meditation. Watching our thoughts
and accepting our life and working according to our values. For
instance if we have a thought that we are depressed, we look at the
thought and say OK, I feel depressed. Then we go about working
according to our values of doing the best we can right now. Allowing
the thought to be just that, A THOUGHT and nothing more! In clinical
studies this new approach lowered depression and other disorders
surprisingly well.

The Way of the Relaxed
Soul
“The Relaxed Soul is aware of his
bodily feelings.”
Are you comfortable with your body? Are you listening to your inner
voice and body ques?
Being aware is the first step, and can be the most important step in
combating stress. We have a certain amount of emotional energy to
expend each day and when we are stressed out our energy is being
used up at a much faster rate.
People who are relaxed check in with themselves all the time, they
notice when their shoulders muscles are starting to tense up, or if
they are holding their breath and take a break. They key in on their
feelings and throughout the day use positive self talk to change
their feelings of frustration and helplessness into feeling of power
and choice.
When exercising relaxed people move through their routine knowing that
everything will be all right, instead of pushing themselves harder
and harder. Being relaxed is a state of mind, and a state of body
which arises out of this state of mind.
Life is not about pushing, (that doesn’t mean not having goals) but it
does mean having self-acceptance and self-awareness of everything we
feel and do everyday.

The Way of
the Relaxed Soul
“The Relaxed Soul
schedules time each morning to express his devotion.”
There are many paths
to spiritual relaxation. One of them is worship. To take the time to
express our devotion, our love for our Creator (no matter what our
religion), has a very healing effect upon the mind, body and spirit.
This might mean going to your place of worship, or a place in your
home. A special place and time for being grateful for what you have.
Your worship might
take place at a specific time or it might be free flowing. Creating
rituals is very important for a daily or weekly practice which
allows you to have time to honor the divine. This might be in the
form of prayer, reading sacred texts, singing songs of devotion,
meditation, whatever you deem important for your spiritual process.

Fitness
is linked with a reduced rate of memory decline in middle age, in
new British research reported in Peak Performance. In this
retrospective study of just under 2,000 middle-aged people born in
the same week in March 1946, physical activity at age 36 was
significantly associated with better memory performance at age 43
and with a slower rate of memory decline from 43 to 53 years. The
suggestion is that it is never too late to benefit from exercise.

The Way of
the Relaxed Soul
“The Relaxed Soul
allows others to help.”
Some of us still try
to do everything by ourselves. This includes work, having fun, even
being sick, and none of it works.
I have learned I have
limitations.
I need people to help
me in many ways. The big hurtle is being willing to ask for help!
Asking for help is one of the hardest things we can do. We feel
inadequate if we ask for help and we feel small asking for help. But
in reality it takes a tremendously powerful person to know when he
needs help and ask for it.
Be powerful, ask for
help!

Snorting carbon
dioxide may help to relieve the throbbing pain of migraine
headaches. In a new study of 77 migraine sufferers, 30% who sniffed
carbon dioxide were pain-free two hours later, compared with only 9%
of the 75 people given a placebo. The amount of relief provided by
the carbon dioxide is very similar to what you get with the potent
oral migraine drugs usually
prescribed to migraine patients, says researcher Egilius Spierings,
MD, PhD, an associate clinical professor of neurology at Harvard
Medical School in Boston.

We have the power to

We must use our power!

Obese people have
fewer symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and less gut pain if they
exercise, researchers report. It shows that a healthy lifestyle is
an important part of overcoming abdominal pain, diarrhea, and other
intestinal woes, says Rona L. Levy, PhD, of the University of
Washington in Seattle. A lot of times people's irritable bowel
syndrome [IBS] has taken over their lives, One of the things one
wants to do is have people live more fulfilling lives rather than
have illness be the focus. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a group
of symptoms consisting most commonly of abdominal pain, bloating,
constipation, and diarrhea. It occurs in about one in five Americans
-- more commonly in women -- and tends to flare with emotional
stress. Though the intestines are not functioning normally in IBS
there is no anatomical problem that can be seen or measured as a
sign of the disease.

The
Way of the Relaxed Soul
“The
Relaxed Soul forms good habits.”
Think of a long distance runner, keeping track of his distance,
water intake, speed and more. He wants to run in the Summer Olympics
so he works hard and long to attain his goal.
But many of us who came from dysfunctional families need immediate
emotional gratification and this keeps us from ever attaining what
we want.
We
keep trying to please the unpleaseable!
And because of this, we have to force ourselves to push past our
need and create goals and attain them. Creating good habits where
dysfunction once dwelled.
Then we feel relaxed and at peace.

In
the United Kingdom a new health bill has passed. Each person will
receive 5 health checks during their lifetime. One at age 10, 25, 45
and age 65, and if they are not healthy they will receive free
visits by a fitness/nutritionist instructor. This new health bill is
expected to save the UK millions of dollars in health care. When
will the US get its act together?

The
Way of the Relaxed Soul
“The Relaxed Soul reaches out.”
We
keep dieting, taking pills to gain muscle and doing anything we can
do to look good. Don’t get me wrong it’s great to stay in shape.
But most of us have a hard time loving our imperfection, and how can
we see our perfection through eyes of imperfection?
When we can see the light in our eyes as something wonderful and
reach out to the one in the mirror adoring every aspect of our
being.
Then and only then do we graduate and receive our diploma in
unconditional love.
For unconditional love starts from within and then we can feel
relaxed and at peace.

The
Way of the Relaxed Soul
“The Relaxed Soul knows how to
take care of himself.”
If
you have high blood pressure take care of yourself by:
1.
By talking to friends and finding new friends. Every one of us needs
people we can call and talk to. How many friends do you have that
you can tell your inner most secrets to? If you don’t have at least
four close friends then you need to find some more.
2.
Stop worrying, nothing ever changed by someone worrying about it.
There are three things you can do, ONE - remove yourself from the
situation, TWO - change the situation, and THREE - accept reality if
there’s nothing you can do. And deal with anything causing you
stress.
3.
Take your medication everyday. Your prescription won’t do you any
good sitting on the shelf.
4.
Learning a new relaxation technique just might save your life. Most
of us have been living our life the same old way. Stop and smell the
roses! Start a Yoga class, QiGong, Tai Chi, or any other type of
stress management class or go see a specialist in stress management.

The
Way of the Relaxed Soul
“The Relaxed Soul is in control
of his state of mind.”
We
can be on the phone with Microsoft for three hours trying to fix our
computer, or sitting at an automotive dealer waiting for a repair.
This is where being at peace and patient comes in handy.
The alternative is to get angry, but that only makes back pain flare
up, our stomach upset and creates headaches.
Either we are in control of our life or the person at the other end
of the phone is.
It’s a choice!

Health Tip
In a recent study,
people who felt they typically received fair treatment at work were
much less likely to suffer from coronary heart disease in later
years compared to people who felt they never got a fair shake. Speak
up and present fair solutions whenever you feel an injustice has
occurred.

The
Way of the Relaxed Soul
“The Relaxed Soul anchors his
mind in peace.”
Runners build endurance by running faster and farther.
In
order to endure unpleasant situations we must learn mental
endurance.
When something happens we must concentrate on positive thoughts.
We
must think good thoughts never allowing the negative to overcome our
mind.
This builds mental endurance keeping us from suffering in the worst
of situations.
It
is said in ancient texts: No sensation or mental torture can affect
you if the mind is dissociated from it and anchored in the peace and
joy of God. - Paramahansa Yogananda

Health Tip
Dr.
Wilson stress researcher says, as stress mounts, the risk for
depression rises. "Depression has many forms, You might get up in
the morning and just as soon not face the day. You feel overwhelmed
with it all and are continually feeling low." Recognizing that
stress is getting out of hand is the first step to change. But even
more important is identifying the sources of anxiety, and taking
action.
