Red Root is a powerful healing agent that Grows in North America and was at one time was a great substitute for regular tea. This herb is great for healing the lymphatic system and cleansing the lymph nodes. It also helps with swelling, redness, toxins, tonsillitis, colds, coughs, helps with mucous, respiratory challenges, asthma, sinus inflammation, headaches, diarrhea, gas, IBS, soreness, painful periods, muscle soreness, it’s antibacterial, helps with sore throats, fatigue, wound healing, rashes, acne, hemorrhoids, and it’s relaxing and helps with sleep.
Other Names – In Latin, it is called Ceanothus americanus and other common names are Redshank, Mountain Lilac, Buckbrush, Desert buckthorn, and Snow Brush… and it is not the same as Blood Root which is not edible.
Where it Grows – Red Root grows all over North America and especially in East Coast, Texas, and Canada.
Growing – This plant is very hardy and will grow even after a fire and will have roots that are very large.
Parts Used – Historically all the plant has been used but really only the root contains the healing agents.
Taste – No smell at all, but is bitter and pungent with a cinnamon-like look to the tea… and the tea has a pleasant taste when stevia and some other sweetener is added.
Lymphatic Cleanse and Healing – Red Root has been used for hundreds of years with great success to cleanse and heal the lymphatic system and also cleans the spleen. It also increases white blood cell production and helps to heal lymph nodes and detox the lymphatic system in general. And helps in the production of antibodies. Also works well for those who have abnormal spleen enlargement.
Heals Respiratory Challenges – Native American and early American settlers have used Red Root to heal asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory ailments and it works well for opening up the lungs and getting rid of inflammation.
Expels Phlegm – Red Root tea also helps with colds, flu, tonsillitis, sinus inflammation, and works wonders as a good expectorant and helps with mucus.
Liver Detox – Red Root tea also helps to detox the liver and stimulate liver function.
Relaxing Agent and Antispasmodic – Red Root tea works wonders for muscle spasms and also works great for relaxing and soothing away tension and helping a person sleep well at night.
Boosts Up Metabolism – Because Red Root helps to detox the body in general and the liver it helps to boost up metabolism and help with weight loss.
Anti-Inflammatory – Red Root also helps with redness, swelling, soreness, and pain and works well for inflammation in general.
Great for Headaches – Red Root tea is wonderful for soothing away that nagging headache.
Antibacterial and Antiviral – Red Root is also antibacterial and works great for healing internal and external infections. Contains tannins, ceanithene, ceanothetric acids, and lignins which all help to kill bacteria. Also helps with mumps, cat scratch fever, mononucleosis, and rocky mountain fever.
Boosts Immune System – Red Root tea also helps our immune system to be vital and strong.
Used as a Mouthwash – Red Root tea can also be used as a mouthwash for healing canker sores, gum disease, and sore throats… but Tea Tree Oil is the best to use for gum disease.
Healing Skin Problems – Red Root tea can be used externally for acne and for healing skin wounds and rashes. Just brew the tea and using a sterile pad dab on the areas and let dry.
Helps with Painful Menstruation – If you have painful periods and have bloating then taking Red Root tea can help.
Great for Hemorrhoids – Take Red Root tea and dab on the exposed hemorrhoids it is very healing and astringent and works wonders for this. Use 2 or 3 times a day.
Forms – You can find teas, tinctures, powders, and capsules.
Dose – In tincture take from 6 to 12 drops daily in juice 3 times a day.
Making Tea – Take Tablespoon of Red Root Tea and place in a cup and add boiling water and steep for 15 minutes, let cool, and drink… drink 3 times a day for a maximum of 7 to 10 days.
Finding – You can find Red Root on amazon.com and eBay.com and also on many other places online.
Cost – One ounce of tincture is about $10, and a pound of the cut and sifted tea runs about $36… And a pound of the powder runs about $30… not bad at all… that’s a lot of Red Root Tea and powder.
Side-Effects – Red Root is not for those who are pregnant, nursing, or small children, or those who have low iron or taking blood thinning medications. But in general, this healing herb has been used for hundreds of years and is very safe. But as always all herbs should only be taken for 7 to 10 days max.
