There are some very simple spices that enhance longevity. In fact there have been many people who have lived to be over 100 years old and they had specific spices that they consumed on a regular basis that created great health, vitality, a sharp mind, and longevity. Here are just a few spices that everyone has in their kitchen cabinets, that will help a person live a long vital life if we start adding them to our food everyday.
Turmeric – There is more known about turmeric in this day and age than ever before. From it’s antioxidant abilities to it’s anti-inflammatory powers. Turmeric is a spice that’s recommended to be consumed everyday. It’s even better if we cook with turmeric and have it with meals everyday. In India many people in ancient times live to be very old. In fact I was in India and met a lot of people who were over 100 years old, and they were walking around and felt wonderful. Even back in the time of Columbus they were looking for new spice routs to the Orient because spices were important for preserving food and for improving the taste of food. But also because spices like turmeric make pain and swelling disappear, and dementia very uncommon. Have some curried lentils, curried veggies, and even add turmeric or curry to smoothies and desserts. Turmeric is the main component of curry and thus adding curry to just about anything will enhance longevity.
Chile Pepper – In China it was found that people who consumed lots of hot chili peppers had a much lower incidents of heart attacks, cancer, and diabetes. And these are the big three diseases that plague the US and other industrialized nations. Thus with these three diseases being less likely to happen for people who consumed hot peppers their life expectancy increased. That very same study in China showed that if a person eats hot chili peppers twice a week… they reduced their chances of coming down with disease by 10%. And if they had a spicy meal more often, they reduced their chances of coming down with disease by up to 14%. And with peppers lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, and preventing inflammation it’s no wonder people don’t come down with disease when eating spicy food. And a study at Harvard Medical School showed that the more spicy food a person consumed the less problems they had with heart disease and cancer. Add chili powder to food, add dried chilies to stir fries, and cayenne pepper to soups, stews, coffee, and even chocolate, and live a much longer life and feel great.
Ginger – Ginger has the ability to fight inflammation, help with nausea, it’s a powerful antioxidant that helps to fight off free radicals thus slows the aging process. It also helps to lower blood pressure and heals the liver from damage from chemicals… which is vitally important in a toxic world. Also ginger works well for healing migraines and nausea and because it’s a great anti-inflammatory agent it helps to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer. And because ginger helps to lower blood sugar and stabilize blood sugar, it can also help to prevent diabetes. And diabetes is one of the biggest killers in the world right now. So adding slices of ginger to soups, stews, having ginger tea, and having that pickled ginger with sushi is great way to add a few more years to our lifespan.
Cinnamon – One man in Arizona who is over 110 years old, and who looks great and feels wonderful says that cinnamon is one of the spices that he attributes to his longevity. Studies with simple worm like creatures that normally live for be 20 days old… lived to be 14% older when supplemented with cinnamon extract. One teaspoon of cinnamon has as much antioxidant capability as that found in a 1/2 cup of blueberries or a full cup of pomegranate juice. Thus cinnamon slows the aging process for a longer life. Also cinnamon is important for lowering and stabilizing blood sugar, thus prevent diabetes. Plus cinnamon boost brain function helping to prevent dementia, and it also anti-microbial and anti-fungal helping to prevent disease in general. And cinnamon helps to prevent leukemia and lymphoma cells from proliferate throughout the body. So add some cinnamon to breakfast every day and reap the benefits of longevity.
There you have it, four wonderful spices that if added to our daily meals will enhance health and well-being, and prevent diseases from entering our life. And it’s not like we have to take extra supplements and pay lots of money for them… these are common spices we all have in our kitchen cabinets. All we need to do is start using a little more of these spices… and feel great. So lets spice up our life, by adding these spices to foods, drinks, coffee, tea, and allowing longevity to be part of our legacy.
