Once I met a saint in India who had a very materialistic wife. Ordinarily, for a devotee, such a wife would pose a severe challenge, But this saint told me humorously, “I have fooled her. She doesn’t know where I am!” What he meant was, her scoldings couldn’t touch the inner peace that he felt in God. Even great outward hardships cannot touch you, once you have learned to dwell always in the Self within.
