Lovage is an herb that has been around for hundreds of years and has been grown in the UK and all over Europe, in Asia, and in the US. Lovage is an excellent food source and has many healing qualities.
Antioxidant – Lovage is full of antioxidants including Vitamin C which helps to stave off cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer. Also helps to keep way colds and flues… and in times long past Lovage has been used to prevent scurvy. Lovage also contains quercetin which is a powerful antioxidant.
Flavouring – Lovage is similar to fennel, anise, parsley, celery, and carrots and has a refreshing flavour that has been used as a flavouring agent in alcoholic drinks and especially liqueurs.
Easy to Grow – Lovage is a large plant that can grow 5 feet tall and it grows like a weed so it makes it simple to cultivate… and it likes full sun. And whole plant can be dried and saved for later use.
GI Tract – Lovage has the ability to calm down the GI tract, get rid of gas, sooth away stomachaches, colic, and ease digestive problems especially overeating.
Skin – Lovage has antiseptic qualities and antibiotic abilities too… and works well made into paste and used topically on rashes, skin irritations, and wounds.
Diuretic – Lovage is also a good diuretic and the leaves can be made into a tea that can help with urinary stones and rid the body of excess water weight.
Anti-inflammatory – Lovage is a mild anti-inflammatory agent and thus is great for cystitis, arthritis, and also helps with PMS and the pain and swelling associated with it, and helps with liver problems, respiratory congestion… and has expectorant qualities too.
Antispasmotic – Lovage is well known for helping with spasms in the urinary tract and muscles.
Sore Throats – Gargling with warm Lovage Tea is great for sore throats.
Red Eyes – If you make an infusion of Lovage it can be used for wash tired red and itchy eyes.
Cancer – New research shows that Lovage contains oils can inhibit cancer growth.
Relaxing Bath – Taking Lovage and adding it to your bath makes for a soothing relaxing way to rid your mind of stress.
Chinese Medicine – In Chinese Medicine Lovage is used to detox the body and help increase blood flow to the heart, helps with headache, backaches, stiffness, arthritis, PMS and more.
Edible – The leaves, stems, roots, and seeds are all edible. Lovage leaves works wonders in salads, soups, sea food, stews, risottos, stir fries, pickles, with meat, used in bread, omelettes, eggs, and mashed potatoes. Also if you cook the stems they can be eaten in a similar fashion to celery. And Lovage has been used as a fragrance in some types of cosmetics.
