Where it Grows – Lucuma Powder comes from a fruit that grows in South America (Pouteria lucuma) and also known as “Gold of the Incas” is common in Peru, Equador, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Chile, and in California, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Philippines and other places with subtropical areas.
First Used – Lucuma was first used in South America around 200 AD.
Growth – The tree grows up to 50 feet tall and the has a egg shaped fruit with a yellow flesh that is dry and has a texture similar to egg yolks. A relative of the canistel fruit which has a similar taste and texture.
Natural Sweetener – The fruit can be dried and ground into a flour that can be used for sweetening all kinds of foods. Because it’s not a liquid it also thickens and creates a creamy texture to anything to add it to.
