History – Turnips go back 4,000 years and the Greeks and Romans used them for creating good health.
Great for Detoxing – Sulfur containing greens like turnip greens are wonderful for detoxing the body, because they contain glucotropaeolin and gluconasturtiian which are both powerful phytonutrients called glucosinolates which detox the body.
Lots of Calcium – Turnip greens contain more calcium than any of the cruciferous veggies… making them great for building strong bones.
Omega 3 Oils – Turnip greens contain lots of wonderful omega 3 oils like that found in cold water fish… which are great for preventing inflammation.

Steamed – Cooked turnip greens are great, but steamed turnip greens retain more cholesterol binding agents. In fact steamed turnip greens lower cholesterol as well as the prescription drug cholestyramine. – Amazing!
Fiber – Turnip greens contain over 5 grams of fiber per cup and that translates into creating a good home for probiotic bacteria that boost our immune system… thus we have better health.
Digestion – Also turnip greens contain glucosinolates which many help to regulate the over growth of Helicobacter pylori which causes gastric ulcers.
Cancer – Eating turnip greens can also help prevent cancer as with all cruciferous vegetables.

Recipes – If you google “Turnip Green Recipes” lots of great recipes will come up. Also turnip greens can be used in just about any recipe that calls for any green. They are great in soups, stews, casseroles, sautéed, steamed, juiced, cooked with onions and garlic, and just about any dish you can think of… and they are very popular in southern dishes.

Finding – Lots of great supermarkets and farmer’s markets have organic turnip greens… and they are easy to grow.
Oxalates – Turnip greens do contain oxalates so they should be cooked if you are sensitive to oxalates.
