Fenugreek – Fenugreek is one of the most important herbs to have in a herbal medicine cabinet. Fenugreek is great for healing aches and pains, lowers cholesterol, works great for fevers and sore throats, and it’s great for lung problems such as colds, flues, asthma and bronchitis, and it lowers blood sugar too. Fenugreek is great for gastritis, heartburn, and other GI problems. And it’s a very important anti-inflammatory, fenugreek is a must have for the medicine chest.
Sage – Sage is best for arthritis and asthma, and it’s also wonderful for relaxing a busy mind, plus it also works fantastic as a blood sugar lowering agent. Sage is great for sore throats and phlegm as a gargle, and it lowers perspiration by 50%. Also important for gastritis, stomachaches, and enteritis, and it helps with PMS and menopause… and it’s antibacterial and anti-fungal too.
Echinacea – Echinacea is one of the best all around immune boosters there is, and lots of people use echinacea to keep from coming down with colds and flues. And it also helps with Inflammation, pain relief, and it’s a good antiviral, it’s a powerful antioxidant, helps with urinary tract infections, tonsillitis, bacterial infections, herpes, yeast infections, and more. Another great herb for the medicine cabinet.
Cumin – Cumin is one of the best all around herbs for the medicine cabinet. Cumin works wonders for indigestion, heartburn, gas, diabetes by lowering blood sugar, and it prevents hypoglycemia. Cumin is helpful for insomnia because it wonderful relaxing agent and it helps with anxiety, it boosts our immune system, contains lots of vitamins, and it’s great for anemia. Cumin works well as a good expectorant, and topically it works well for hemorrhoids, insect bites and other irritations.
Cinnamon – This common spice is important for healing PMS, helps with our memory, helps with colds and flues because it’s a powerful antioxidant. Cinnamon lowers cholesterol and Blood Sugar and with weight loss and it’a good anti-fungal agent and antibacterial agent. Plus it’s a good food preservative, gets did of odors, helps with candida yeast infections, IBS, osteoporosis, and a few more challenges.
Valerian – Valerian is one of the best herbs for stress and helping with insomnia, restlessness, nervousness, and inducing relaxation. And valerian is not addictive and has proven to be safe, effective, and side effect free it taken in normal amounts and valerian has been used all the way back to the middle ages without problems. Also valerian relaxes muscles and the whole body during sleep, thus you have less aches, pains, and stiffness in the morning. Valerian contains gamma animo butyric acid which allows the brain to relax and calm away anxiety, thus creating natural sleep without feeling groggy in the morning. And valerian is very important for fatigue because not sleeping well creates fatigue.
Valerian is a good anti-inflammatory agent helping with swelling, pain, and redness, plus it also calms nerves and promotes peace of mind. Valerian also works as a very good antispasmodic agent for the GI tract and for muscles cramps. Also works well for irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease… and also for PMS pain, headaches, and cramps. Works wonders for colic, diarrhea, gas, bloating, and indigestion from stress.
Activated Charcoal – Activated Charcoal is a very common way to deal with GI problems and cleans away toxic substances from the body. Activated Charcoal is very absorbent and can take care of certain types of poisons. Works well for nausea, vomiting, colic, diarrhea, and acid reflux and it can help those who suffer from diverticulitis, peptic ulcers, and even bad breath. Activated Charcoal is great for taking care of GI gas and the pain associated with gas. And Activated Charcoal can be used for detoxing the body and for cleansing the colon. Studies show that Activated Charcoal can also lower cholesterol by over 24% and lower LDL or bad cholesterol by over 40% and also lowering triglycerides… and thus support cardiovascular health and thus helping to prevent heart attacks and strokes. Activated Charcoal mixed with water and made into paste is wonderful for rashes, insect bites, and other skin irritations, and has even used for snake bites. Activated Charcoal works well for Brown Recluse Spider bites and has been used for poison oak and ivy infections too.
Slippery Elm – Slippery Elm is an herb that is made from the inner bark of the Red Elm tree. Slippery elm is one of the best herbs for treating all kinds of GI tract problems including gastric ulcers and intestinal problems. Slipper elm creates a mucilaginous balm for the GI tract that is very healing, and slippery elm is also great for GI gas, gastric reflux, and heartburn. Plus slippery elm helps with constipation and it’s very soothing for the whole body. Slippery elm is wonderful for soothing the urinary tract, throat, and vaginal irritations. Slippery Elm is also great for soothing and promoting healing the lungs from bronchitis and asthma… and slippery elm has been used as a very good gruel for the elderly and babies having GI distress. And slipper elm also works for skin disease too such things as wounds, sunburns, poison ivy, and other skin irritations. Slippery elm is a must for the medicine cabinet.
Devils Claw – Devil’s claw is a great pain reliever with no side effects that works well for arthritis and other inflammatory conditions such as neck pain, back pain, tendinitis, headaches, migraines, and more. It’s lowers blood pressure and cholesterol and lowers fevers and helps with gout, kidney and bladder inflammation and skin inflammation.
Boswellia – Boswellia is a super powerful anti-inflammatory agent that works for arthritis, asthma, COPD, bronchitis, allergies, and even autoimmune diseases. It also works well for brain edema, chronic inflammatory disease, boosting up our immune system, helps with colitis, IBS, Crohn’s Disease, lower back pain and menstrual cramps. It also boosts up our killer cells to better immunity, protects agains liver damage, helps with asthma, lowers blood pressure and helps with PMS and so much more.
Garlic – Garlic contains allicin which in double blind studies has been shown to cut your probability of coming down with a cold or flu by 50%. But allicin must be taken in it’s natural form as fresh garlic. Garlic has been shown to lower blood pressure and manage blood pressure for long periods of time. Garlic has the ability to help us use iron more effectively, so if you are low in iron and taking an iron supplement also take Garlic. Garlic can help prevent the accumulation of fats in the liver. Garlic increases bile flow from the gallbladder thus it helps to prevent gallstones and congestion of the liver. Garlic has been shown to heal away plaques in arteries and thus help to improve cardiovascular disease, stokes, and other diseases.
Marshmallow Root – Marshmallow Root is very soothing to all the mucus membranes of the body including the GI tract, urinary tract, and lungs. Marshmallow root helps with indigestion, gas, it’s very soothing for the whole body including our muscles, and helps with GI irritation, gastric reflux, and stomachaches. It also helps with urinary tract inflammation, urethritis, coughing, asthma, inflamed skin, and more. A must have for the medicine chest.
Turmeric – Turmeric is a great detoxifying agent for the whole body and especially the liver, and studies show that Turmeric is beneficial in the treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.Turmeric is one of the best anti-inflammatory herbs a person can buy, in fact it works just about as well as anti-inflammatory prescription drugs and it also helps with pain. If a person suffers from urinary tract infections and cystitis then turmeric is important. Turmeric is great for arthritis and also inflammatory bowel disease of any kind, and it also works for people who have cystic fibrosis. Turmeric lowers cholesterol, and improves liver function, provides protection from heart attacks and strokes.
Chamomile – Chamomile can be found as teas, ointments, and creams. And it helps with Inflammation by being a powerful antioxidant. It’s great for getting a good nights rest, helps with insomnia and stress, wards of infections and heals wounds. Plus it’s great for migraines and headaches, and chamomile helps with IBS, cramps, and the symptoms of colds and flues. And chamomile is great for irritated skin and hemorrhoids.
Tea Tree Oil – Tea Tree Oil comes from the leaves of the Tea Tree. It was used in World War II by the Swiss soldiers as a way to help heal minor wounds. Tea Tree Oil is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral too, and it works great for rashes, abscesses, warts, hemorrhoids, insect bits, jock itch, dandruff, acne, blisters, athletes foot, and it is also great in shampoo for cleaning hard contact lenses. And tree tree oil is important for healing little scratches and skin wounds.
Aloe Vera – Everyone knows about aloe for burns but did you know that aloe also helps with gastric ulcers, lowering stomach acid, and prevents gastric reflux, and helps with Crohn’s disease and IBS, and aloe is a great alkalizing agent too. Aloe keeps your GI system regular thus ending constipation. Mullein – Common Mullein is great for asthma, coughs, bronchitis, sore throats and congestion. In studies Common Mullein was found to fight the common cold virus, pneumonia, and other viral respiratory infections. Common Mullein also works great for earaches, even better than taking antibiotics according to some studies.
Peppermint – Peppermint is great for GI challenges including colic in children, IBS, and gas. Peppermint also helps with headaches and migraines and muscle pain. Plus it also helps with asthma, nasal congestion and it’s a good expectorant. Peppermint is great for gallbladder inflammation and liver inflammation in general, nausea, and vomiting. And peppermint helps with prostate disease, inflammation from breast feeding. Plus it also helps with shingles, and side effects of chemotherapy.
Elderberry – A study in 2004 showed significant improvement in flu patients who were given elderberry extract. Elderberry has antioxidant properties and boosts the immune system helping with bacterial and viral infections. Also contains anthocyanin which is a good ant-inflammatory agent. Elderberry also contains Vitamins A, B and C and amino acids, carotenoids, and minerals. Plus Elderberry Juice and Extract can lower cholesterol and especially LDL or bad cholesterol. Elderberry Juice also helps lower blood sugar and is effective in treatment of colds, yeast infections, asthma, coughs, and congestion, and protects against cardiovascular and heart diseases.
