“What To Do When You Have Everything and You Feel Empty Inside”
A young man contacted me the other day and said, “I have a great wife, a new little girl on the way, and a great job but I feel empty inside”. Here is what I told him.
It’s very common for people to feel empty inside in this day and age. The feel they are just going through the motions and nothing matters. There is no spiritual uplifting that makes people feel full, alive, free, and ready to embrace life no matter what happens.
What Can You Do?
1 – Read as Many Spiritual Texts as You Can Find. Be it the Bible, Bhagavadgita, the writings of Lao Tsu, the Koran, the teachings of Sai Baba, a Course in Miracles, the Teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, Divine Mother Amma, the Teachings of Buddha, the teachings of Ramana Maharshi, The teachings of Poonja, The teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti, The teachings of Ramakrishna, The teachings of Eckhart Tolle, The teachings of Mooji, The teachings of Swami Vivekananda, The teachings of Jaggi Vasudev, The teachings of Gangaji, The teachings of Dr. Wayne Dyer, the teachings of Dr. David Hawkins, and the list goes on and on. Some will ring true with you… use those to help you on your path. Some will not ring true with you… discard them as not for you and bless them and move on.
2 – Go Inward to Find Truth. It’s all well and good to read lots of different teachings but the most important teaching will be found within. All the great teachers have said that your truth is within you not out there in the world. That is where meditation comes in and plays a very important part. Most people are so captivated by the outer world that they have never really taken the time to go inward and connect to their soul. We become disconnected from our soul and our soul knows exactly what we really need. And in deep silence, in deep meditation, in deep oneness… one finds exactly what they need to fill them up… and the truth to move them forward in life every single day. 3 – Go Out and Experience the Divine. It’s one thing to go inward and experience and meditate and also to read spiritual books. But it’s a totally different thing to have lots of spiritual experiences. I remember being in the presences of Shri Shri Ravi Shankar who gave a talk and I went up to give him a hug. Wow… right away I could see he was not there at all it was like giving a hug to a spirit. And my friend who was with me said the same thing.
I’ve also gone to see Divine Mother Amma and even before she came into the room everyone in the room started to cry and so did I… and we didn’t know she was coming. And when she gave me a hug I started bawling with lots of tears and when I got up I was light headed and almost fell off the stage but the people around her grabbed me. And they asked me to sit by her and meditate. So I did and I saw a violet light coming from my heart to Divine Mother Amma that turned into a fountain of light. Then I ask the blind woman sitting beside me (who was not always blind) what she saw and she had the same experience— Amazing! So go out and experience spirituality… this is one of the most important aspects of all.
