Plus processed food, lots of sugar, and fats which cause diabetes which is out of control in the US… and all of this can be avoided with plant based diets.”

Green House Gases – The big issue is green house gases which are created with animal production. Cows, sheep, and pigs create methane, and that methane is the most powerful green house gas on the planet… which is causing havoc with our ozone layer.
With countries in South America like Brazil cutting down thousands of acres of rainforests to provide pasture for cattle that production methane gas, more and more green house gases are being produced.
If this keeps going green house gases will increase by 80% by 2050… which will create climate change that will be impossible to change. 30% of the worlds land mass is now being used for grazing animals and producing methane which causes global warming.
Inefficient Use of Food – 70% of all the grains grown around the world are fed to animals… which is not efficient in protein production. It takes 5 pounds of grain to produce one pound of farm raised fish, it takes 16 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of beef… this is not an efficient use of plant based foods.
Obesity and GHG Connection – Green house gases are growing at the same rate at which obesity is growing on the planet. Eating animal protein, dairy products, sugar, salt, and lots of fats is directly related to animal production which leads to obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, disease and death.
Take for instance China which historically had a low incidence of obesity for years. But now China is becoming a society where people are becoming obese because of fast food, processed food, lots of saturated fats, animal protein, dairy products, and more. It never used to be this way in China, people where thin, fit, and in good shape until fast food took over. And fast food means lots of animal protein which in the long run means destroying our planet.
Need Green Plants – Green plants like those found in the rainforest, plant based agriculture, growing chlorella and spirulina, and many more sources of photosynthesis change carbon dioxide into oxygen which is very important.
80% of our atmosphere is nitrogen and less than 20% is oxygen. And when we produce more methane on the planet than oxygen… we are in for a huge wakeup call.
Fossil Fuels – Compared to a plant based diets, it takes 11 times more fossil fuel to make one calorie of animal protein… which also leads to more green house gases causing global warming.
Water Use – It takes 4,800 gallons of water to produce 2 pounds of animal protein (That’s enough water to be able to take a shower for a year). While it takes only 50 gallons of fresh water to produce 2 pounds of plant based protein.
Acres Used – It takes 2.5 acres of land to produce enough animal based food for 1 person for one year. While that same 2.5 acres of land with plant based food will feed 20 to 25 people.
Animal Protein Consumption – With the average American consuming over 800 pounds of animal based protein a year, that adds up to be thousands of pounds of grain, thousands of gallons of water, a tremendous amount of fossil fuels, lots of acres of land and more being used per person… this type of consumption on the planet is not sustainable.
Some Countries Changing – Some countries like New Zealand are moving carbon credits away from animal production and into plant based nutritional agriculture… in order to save the planet and create a healthier population.
It all boils down to this…
Plant based foods are good for the planet and also good for our health.
