You may have a persistent cough after a cold that will not go away, such a cough can put you at risk for bronchitis and other problems, so lets take care of that cough.
Here is a great all natural herbal cough syrup you can make at home.
Place in a sauce pan:
1 oz of whole ginger cut in pieces, – ginger is a great anti-inflammatory and will help you with your cough.
1 oz of garlic cloves crushed – garlic is important for boosting your immune system.
1 small red pepper — you will remove this later. – great antibacterial qualities for the lungs.
1 lemon – use all the zest from the lemon and the juice. – helps with irritation of the lungs.
1/4 oz of whole chamomile flowers – it’s calming, soothing, and helps with irritation.
1 oz of anise seeds – great antimicrobial agent and soothes away dry coughs.
1/4 oz of thyme or mint leaves – great for irritated lungs and also for soothing your cough.
1/4 oz of turmeric powder or whole root if you can find it. – powerful immune boosting agent.
1 oz of finely chopped onion – a good anti-inflammatory and expectorant, plus immune booster.
1/4 oz of black pepper balls – increases circulation and soothes the lungs.
Add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil for 15 to 20 minutes.
Let cool and put through a fine mesh strainer.
Add 1 cup of honey – studies show that honey works just as well as all the over the counter medications for coughs.
At this point you can add any natural flavoring you like such as cinnamon oil or any other flavor… be creative.
Put in a sealed glass jar in the frig and use as needed.
Every one of these ingredients are great for soothing the tickle in your chest that won’t go away.
